Places which most of the people are suggesting would be filled with crowd. Try avoiding them. But at the same time some of these places are worth your time. Visit Nubra valley. Then go to Turtuk on a day trip from Nubra, come back for night stay. You can ride to Pangong Tso via Shayok Village (has recently been opened for tourists) and spend some hours there. Go to Tangste for the night stay as camps and other establishments have been taken down since Supreme court ordered that. Ride the road to Tso Moriri and have lunch at Chusul Village. Take some time to spend some time alone at Yaye-Tso and Mirpal-Tso (Two small lakes). Spend the night at the camps at Tso Moriri. You can take the road back to Leh and Visit Hemis. Also, you can do small hiking there. Magnetic hill, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and some generic places you can visit, too!

Foremost thing to do in ladakh on the first day of landing is that you do nothing. you should take complete rest. next day you can go around in Leh market, leh palace and shanti stupa. next day you can go towards Shamm- Alchi monastery and lamayuru on the way you can see Indus river and Zanskar and also magnetic hill. you should plan for Nubra valley tour-double hump camel ride, sand dunes, shayok river and diskit monastery and of course you will go to Nubra via highest motoraable road in the world (khardungla) where you will get to see snow. one day you can plan for tsomoriri lake or pangong lake but pangong lake has become very crowded after 3 idiot movie. if you have more time then can plan for Zanskar trip also. home stay is the best but you might not have luxury like in hotels.
