Hello there. I've been on an extensive tour in the North east India for 27 days which was a bike trip. There is no restriction as such. However, you need to obtain Permit to visit North & east Sikkim and also parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, the army officials can stop you from visiting certain places depending on the weather conditions. Hi, yes north east do have a lot of restrictions with some places requiring an inner line permit to visit and other are totally restricted for tourist. You will have to plan out your trip, decide the places you want to visit and then check which all would require a permit. You will have to apply for a permit beforehand.
Overall there is no restriction but for visiting some places, you will require permits. These are places either close to the borders or are potentially dangerous. So, just a few places would be compromised if you do not get permit but you still had whole North East to visit.
