Hi Abhishek. There is much to explore in Sikkim. Being your first time, you should try to cover most of it. Where most of the people start is in East Sikkim, where the capital Gangtok is located in. From here you can go on a day long sightseeing around the city and outskirts or a day-excursion to Tsomgo Lake (where you can see snow) and Nathula Pass, or chose to witness and travel through the Old Silk Route at Zuluk. There are also short day treks at Teenjurey, Bhusuk, or Assam Lingzey and adventure activities like zip-lining, paragliding, mountain cycling, mountain biking etc. to choose from. Gangtok offers a lot in terms of shops for picking up knick-knacks, a range of eateries to sample lip-smacking local as well as familiar cuisines. You cannot miss the view of the mighty Mt. Khangchendzonga visible from almost anywhere here. Typically people spend 2-3 days in this district and keep Gangtok as their base. Once you have your fill of East Sikkim, you can move on to North Sikkim (the most popular among tourists) where you can visit the frozen Gurudongmar lake at 17000 feet above sea level in Lachen and witness the beautiful Yumthang valley at Lachung, all the while moving through pristine locales in the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas, and of course, see lots of snow. There are more places like Chopta Valley, Katao and a few hot springs too that are a welcome add-on to this part of Sikkim.Typically, North Sikkim requires 3 days to cover most of the popular spots but involves a lot of travelling each day. If you are interested in a bit of history and love nature walks/ treks, then West Sikkim is the place to be at. Rabdenste Ruins in Pelling and Norbu Ghang at Yuksom tell tales of an era gone by. Other popular tourist spots include the Glass Skywalk with the 135 feet high statue of Chenrezig (tallest in the world) at Sangha Choeling, the Singshore bridge (second highest in Asia), Khecheopalri Lake (which has a unique story attached to it) and the Pemayangtse Moanstery (one of the oldest in Sikkim). The scenic vistas of Uttarey, Barsey, Sreebadam attract tourists especially in Apr-May where one can see the forests set ablaze in red thanks to the multitude of Rhododendron blooms. Yuksom is also the base for the famous Goechala trek. There are many traditional homestays in West Sikkim which also offer a tour of organic farms, a chance to witness traditional cooking. preparations, tasting local wines and more, giving an immersive experience to the traveller. You can choose to spend anywhere between 2-3 days up to 11-12 days here depending on the activities you wish to undertake. Lastly, just a mere 2-3 hour drive from Gangtok lies the South district of Sikkim. Witness the 130 feet tall statue of Buddha in a park called Tathagata Tsal inside the Rabong monastery complex at Ravangla, which is a centuries old pilgrimmage place. Next on th elist of religious places, is the replica of the famous Char-Dham (four religious hindu temples of Badrinath, Puri, Rameshwaram And Dwarka) at Namchi. There is a huge Shiva statue here too. Also take a tour of the Temi Tea Estate, planted by the royal Chogyals of Sikkim and carry home the season's best handcrafted teas. This district can usually be covered in a day with Gangtok as its base, or you can choose to explore more by spending 2 days with Namchi or Temi as your base. Borong is a unique village which stil preserves and propogates the ancient art of making traditional handmade paper used in manuscripts at monasteries. There is so much to choose from at a varied budget depending on your interest and the time of the year you choose to travel. Season time (between April and June) is the most expensive but also the best time to see the best.Call us at +91 738478607 or write to us at booking@tourgenie.com to know more.
