Hey Ugran, That's an awesome plan ... I had been to Wagah border in 2016 ... the crowd is always big and dont worry as you have got bsf people with guns out dre to control crowd and you are all India are hands ... Go ahead and enjoy the lovely patriotism showcased by our soldiers ... the ceremony is something you should never miss and the best idea is to go to the border by 3 p.m. so that you have got your seats near to the gate and have all the time for yourself ... Happy Travelling !!!

Hey Urgan, Wagah border remains always congested unless you are visiting in off-season. I visited there in April 2015, at that time also there was much crowd. But it will be fun when in crowd everybody at the border after the parade will shout “ Bharat Mata ki Jai” louder than the Pakistanis on the side of border. It will give you goose bumps and a feeling of patriotism. Two other places you must visit in Amritsar Golden temple ( must eat Langar there-never miss at any chance) and Jallianwala Bhagh. Hope this helps.
Hey Urgan, I and my friend Jagriti visited the Wagha Border in June and we were travelling from Delhi to Amritsar and Wagha and it was just fine. we didn't find any issue or came across any untoward situation even at night when we went out for dinner to the reccomended places Amritsar. so you can take an Auto(bargain well) from Amritsar to Wagha its about 30kms and takes 1 hour approx to reach the border. also expect a big line of people entering in. we were told by the locals to start for the border by 2pm. but we thought that since it's just an hour we would start by 4 but, locals direct you well. we sat up in some corner in the top most row. which isn't as good as what it sounds like. you would want a front seat near the ground to really enjoy the ceremony. Not that you can't enjoy from up above but we had to really struggle to watch every movement on the ground as the people in front of us kept standing and we really had to shout and ask people to sit down. All said, its a completely safe place the ceremony ended by around 6 by the time we came out to the parking it was 7pm and the time we hit the city it was around 9pm and still we asked the auto wala to take us to a dinner place. so don't worry enjoy. it's a good experience. Akanksha Chouhan Attaching the pictures of the place and crowd for you to have an understanding.
I've always been fascinated by the idea of visiting the Wagah Border on Republic Day. I've heard it's a massive event, but I've also been worried about the crowds and chaos. I do not have enough time, so I decided to try Paperial help after reading paperial.com/reviews and I learned that it's always a good idea to plan ahead and prepare for the worst, especially when it comes to large crowds. So make sure to manage your time effectively. If you're planning to visit the Wagah Border, I would recommend arriving early and being prepared for the crowds.
