07-March-2020, we started from chennai early morning since we planned to see the sunset from Kolukkumalai. From Theni, Tamilnadu it's a 65 km ride to Suryanelli. You have to cross two forest checkpost one from tamilnadu and next from Kerala. In Suryanelli we have to park our vehicles and board a jeep to reach Base camp at Kolukkumalai.
Jeep ride is from a 4635 ft. elevation to the campsite at 6500ft. Above sea level mostly off-road and through tea plantation. You witness breathtaking views during this journey. We reached the camp site around 6:00 PM. We were alloted with our tents and provided us sleeping bags, All the tents pitched here has a view. We were given hot chai and mirchi bajjis. Around 9 we were provided with Non-Veg dinner and were asked to wake up early by 4:30 AM so we can start the trek before 5:30 AM. We had a campfire sessions with fellow trekkers and we called it a day around 11:00 PM.
08-March-2020, Morning had a wake up call from the organizers by 4:30 AM. Camp site has toilets and it was crowded a little. We freshed up and started the trek by 5:30 AM holding the torches. The trek was not that easy though, climbing an elevation of 6500ft. To 7086ft. and the trail becoming a little steeper at the end. We witnessed breathtaking views during the entire trek. It was blissful to watch the sunrise and the bed of cloud below you. We took lot of photos and descended back to the base camp. Had our breakfast and took rest after the tiring trek in our tents. We took few more group photos & left the campsite around 12:00 PM and ended the trip so beautifully. #Lockdown
