Sukhna Lake

Sukhna Lake is situated in Chandigarh, India, is a small reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik slopes. This 3 km² rainfed lake was made in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a regular stream descending from the Shivalik Hills. The lake was made by Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P L Verma. To safeguard its quietness Corbusier demanded that the highest point of the dam (promenade) to be disallowed for vehicular traffic. Sukhna is a conjoined piece of the city of Chandigarh. Le Corbusier had predicted that the city's inhabitants would be drawn it for the 'care of the body and spirit'. The city organizers were profoundly joined to the lake. To such an extent that Pierre Jeanneret's fiery debris were inundated in the lake in 1970, according to his wishes by his niece. The lake is confronting major issues like weed abundance, catchment sufficiency and silting that are essentially contracting its size and depth of the lake.
You may reach Chandigarh via train from Ludhiana, Ambala or any other part of the country or by road from New Delhi via Delhi- Chandigarh highway. Take city bus from outside the railway station and it will drop you in the front of Sukhna Lake. Go and enjoy the beauty of Chandigarh at this place.
Boating at the Sukhna LakeThe next in line should be the Sukhna Lake. This is a beautiful artificial lake located on the foothills of Shivalik Range. It is a rain fed lake and is created by pulling out the water of the stream there. This beautiful and serene lake is one of the most visited places in Chandigarh. The pristine blue waters of the lake and its peaceful surroundings are perfect for those looking for solitude. The lake also has a few water activities like boating, solar cruise and trampoline jumping. During the winter months, the lake also becomes the home for several migratory birds.

There is nothing beautiful than sunrise
By the time we came out, it was already 6PM and we were quite tired. We decided to give rose garden a miss. But we ended up going to Sukhna Lake, the most calm and serene place in Chandigarh. There are vendors selling food and boating and some amusement for children. But looking at the vast expanse of water really calms you down. Plus, the ducks are really cute:)I found the boating rates a bit expensive, so didn't go for it. Btw, Sukhna lake is just about 1 km from rock garden so if you are up for it, you can even walk!
