It was my second visit to Varkala; a beautiful coastal town in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. With the enormous cliffs and rocky coast line, Varkala had already blown away my mind during my first visit. So much so that I was visiting the place a second-time, way before I could mark my first visit anniversary.

Palm Tree Heritage; I came across this cozy beach resort, a little away from the cliff. Set on the Odayam beach, away from the commercial spot of Varkala, this place was to be my little escapade for any time of the year.

I started my tryst with travel a couple of years ago. No matter how common or uncommon a place I travel, I prefer staying in places that are less crowded and give me the maximum exposure to connect with the localities and the place. This resort was one of such choices.

This eco-friendly resort is a perfect destination for quality living, amazing food, and a serene time by the sea. The hospitality of the staffs, is bound to cast a spell on you. Both the staffs and the owner himself will make sure that you do have a good time. Mr. Babu, the owner of the hotel is an excellent host and a gifted story teller. So, even if you are on a solo trip, you will not be devoid of a company.

The cliff top or the market area isn't that far from the resort. You can take an auto to reach there or may even choose to walk by the shore. I suggest you go for the second option; for you will get to wade past tiny groups of fishermen, drop by the Varkala Aquarium, or knock by the line of resorts that start way before the actual cliff top.

Another thing that is sure to happen with you while taking this way! You are ought to get lost with the simplicity yet gorgeousness of the sea. The constant sprinkle of water on your face after every wave hits the rock lined seashore, the huge coconut trees standing tall, guarding you from the heat, and the constant smell of sea. Don’t worry, you have made a better choice by ditching the auto ride. (Not to forget, you can take this route only during the day time. In the evening, the route is closed for your own safety.)

If you have already watched the sun go down from the cliff, then try to be back to the resort by the evening. You can sit beside the sea and sip on your wine feeling amused in the aura of the twilight playing over the horizon. Stay there for as long as you want. You get to do star gazing as the night encroaches. When bored, you can even dance to the tune of the music being played in the background. And call the day off with some delicious dinner.

Wake up early the next morning. The mornings are misty, and the seashore gets busy by 6:00 am. The fishermen come back from the sea with their catch by then. So, if you are a fish lover, your excitement will reach new heights seeing such abundance. To calm down the exuberance, you could even go and make a private rendezvous with the morning sea. The water would be cold, but one splash on your feet and you will stand their still; not wanting to make yourself dry.

This sublime coastline promises to indulge you in a visual and physical retreat you rarely can substitute. So, after you are done with the private rendezvous by the sea, you can take a walk along the Odayam beach. With a couple of other resorts situated in the same line and the possibility of having a nice morning walk, you will not be disheartened.

Get back to the resort after the walk, take bath and have your tummy filled with the gorgeous spread of Keralian breakfast. You will not be in a mood to say goodbye to this little gem of an escapade. So, make up your mind really quick!

One small advice from this crazy fan of Varkala, make a small promise to the sea; tell it that you will soon come back. Leave the rest on time! That’s exactly what I did, when I visited the first time. And the sea called me back within a year’s time. Don’t worry! You can keep repeating the same promise each time. Hush hush! I just let out my secret.
