Bhrigu Lake Trek – TrekTrails

Day 1 – Manali to Gulaba by road and 2 kms moderate trek from Gulaba to Thatch

As our bodies are not used to adjust at higher altitudes, purpose of day 1 is to get the trekkers acclimatized to the rising altitude.

Day starts with pick up from Manali bus stand at 10 AM. Gulaba at an altitude of 2700 metres is 20 kms from manali and lies on Manali – Rohtang Pass road. 20 kilometres journey from Manali to Gulaba takes about 45 minutes. After this journey, breakfast would be served at Gulaba and trek would start from Gulaba at around 11:30 AM.

It would be a short hike of 2 kms and would take an hour to reach campsite. Lunch would be server at the campsite. After a welcome note and detailed briefing, snacks and soup would be served at around 4 PM. There would be a bonfire at 7 PM if weather permits and after that dinner would be served at around 8 PM

Day 2: 4 kms trek from Thatch to Rola Kholi

Morning tea would be served at 6:30 AM. Post that, we would try to have brief yoga and muscle relaxing session. Breakfast would be served at 8 AM. After getting packed lunch, trek starts by 9 AM from Thatch and we would be moving towards Rola Kholi, our campsite for Day 2. Trek is gradual climb for first 3 kms and last 1 kms is moreover flat. Enroute, we have to cross 2 waterfalls and we also get a chance to see blooming flowers of different varieties. We cross the treeline to camp at Rola Kholi at 3800 metres.

Rola Kholi campsite is in the lap of lush green mountains. There is also a snow fed river too besides the campsite.

One can also catch a glimpse of Solang valley and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges from the campsite.

Evening snacks would be served at 5 PM, soup at 6 PM and dinner at 8 PM. We would also have some activities during evening time.

Day 3: 3.5 kms trek to Bhrigu Lake and 4.5 kms trek to Pandu Ropa

It’s the longest day of trek and would start with tea at 6 AM. Breakfast would be served at 7:30 AM and after getting packed lunch, trek would start at 8:30 AM. It’s a steep climb of 3.5 kms till Bhrigu Lake. The mesmerizing sight of Bhrigu Lake is worth the effort one makes to reach the lake. We would be spending some time time besides the lake and interested people can also go to Bhrigu top which is at height 4300 metres. Bhrigu top provides a wonderful view of various peaks and also Hampta Pass.

After collecting the lifetime memories of visiting this natural wonder, we would proceed towards Pandu Ropa, our campsite for third day. Pandu Ropa campsite at altitude of 3460 metres resembles a scene from a fairy tale movie. Its similar to valley of flowers with camp site is located within huge meadows filled with flowers. Locals use these flowers in preparation of tea. There is a river too besides the campsite.

Day 4: 7.5 kms trek to Kulong and 5 kms drive to Manali

Last day of trek is the easiest as we would be descending the entire route from 3460 metres to 2115 metres through forest of Oak, Pine and cedar trees.

Morning tea would be served at 6:30 AM. Post that, we would have yoga and muscle relaxing session. Breakfast would be served at 8 AM. After getting packed lunch, trek starts by 9 AM from Pandu Ropa and we would be moving towards Kulong. Through the entire route, one can hear gushing sound of water of Beas river and also catch the glimpses of Manali and nearby villages. We would reach Kulong village by 3 PM and after final thank you note, everyone would be moved in pre-arranged cabs from Kulong to Manali

Manali is the biggest tourist attraction of Himachal Pradesh and is famous among many adventurers and travellers as it provides opportunity for various activities like skiing, rafting, river crossing, camping and trekking. Due to its ideal location, it is also famous among people going towards Leh, Ladakh India. One can experience centuries old architecture, and the local culture. There are many trekking routes around manali which still are very less explored. Some examples are Bhrigu Lake, Flower valley trek, Beas Kund etc.
Bhrigu lake at an altitude of 4090 metres near Manali is a holy lake and natural wonder in itself. It resembles a huge crater and circular in shape. It is believed that Bhrigu Rishi used to meditate besides the lake and visits the lake once every year. One can clearly see Friendship peak, ladakhi peak and Hanuman tibba peak from Bhrigu Lake. Lake lies to the east of Rohtang Pass which is at height 3978 metres. Bhrigu top at height 4300 metres besides the lake also provides a view of Hampta Pass.

Vashist or Bashist temple is 3 kms from Manali and is centuries old temple. It is famous for natural hot water springs. It is believed that one can get rid of physical ailments by taking bath in this holy water.
