Melbourne was known for its Gold rush in the old days, but in present its well known for its White Gold (& Red too). If you are dreaming about the liquid gold with wine then you would have guessed it right, yes I am talking about the vineyards in Yarra Valley.
#YarraValley #WineTour
To experience the same, I was on-board for a one day trip to the Yarra Valley (Yarra Valley Wine Tour by BunyIp Tours). The tour bus picked me around 9:30 AM from the St Paul Cathedral near the Federation Square. There were around 20 people, even though it was a weekday. The tour instructor was quite funny and made sure everyone felt at home..
It took around 45-60 minutes to reach the first winery stop - 'Punt Road'. We were given the first few tips about the wine tasting, surely it sounded much better than the history classes back in the school days.
After the first winery, we headed out for the second winery at the Balgownie estate. It was a delight to see the affection and passion of wine makers towards the liquid gold. (Wine)
We had the third stop at the Yering Farm where we had some special wine, pardon me for forgetting the names and details, as I was tipsy ;)
For the last and the special one, we were hosted by the Chandon winery, where we got to see the process behind the wine making machines and storage area. The popping sound of cork form the bottle of sparkling wine was like delightful music to the ears.
We were given the first instruction to have a small sip and try to swallow without keeping it in the mouth as there are more taste receptors in the back of the throat. You need to make sure you hold the wine glass through its stem to avoid transferring the body heat to the wine.
Once you have the first sip to identify the wine taste and texture, you can try second sip and give it some time before you swallow it. Other thing to be considered while tasting wine to inhale through the nose, don't be afraid to make some noise like u are sipping the cup of tea :) We were loving the wine tasting experience as we got the chance to try 2 white and 2 red wines.
When someone told, its time to checkout then its hard to say Good bye :)
We also got to taste the Sparkling wine and were amazed to know so many minute details about wine. We were given lot of options to choose the lunch menu, which included dishes containing Lamb or Chicken or Fish or Risotto. I quickly made my mind to go with the famous fish and chips along with the red wine suggested by the host.
After we finished the tour, we called off the day and headed back to the city around 4PM. I would strongly recommend to book this trip if you are visiting Melbourne :)
Adios till we pour again....
