It is always a pleasure to travel to Mysore - the city of palaces. After our marriage, when thought of a trip, the first place that came to our mind was of Mysore. It was a perfect destination for 2 days trip from our home town Thrissur in Kerala. Since it is just a 3 hour journey from Mysore to Bangalore we planned the trip to include Bangalore also.

We started the journey on Kerala State Transport Scania bus from Thrissur to Mysore on Friday, 7th June 2019 at 10 p.m. Our plan was to spend the next day and night at Mysore and then visit Bangalore on Sunday and return at night and reach home by Monday morning.

Day 1

Our bus was on time and we went to sleep after boarding the bus. The next day morning we reached Mysore at around 6 a.m. Since we booked the hotel online, the check in time was 12 p.m and they were not ready for early check in. So we freshened up from bus stand and had breakfast from a near by restaurant. After that we took a walk along the town near by Mysore palace. It is always a bliss even seeing the palace from outside the gate. It is such a marvellous architecture. We spent some time in and around the palace gate and near by roads.

After that at around 9 a.m we went to the famous St. Philomena's Cathedral. It is an Catholic church which is the second largest church in Asia. It should be visited not only for the religious significance but for the architectural beauty. It was quiet peaceful inside the church. There were few tourists inside and outside the church. The church can be visited between morning 5 and evening 6. We spent around half an hour at church.

Next we went to the major attraction of the Mysore - Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysore Zoo. It was located near Mysore palace. The zoo was full of tourists and it is one of the most crowded tourist place in Mysore. We bought the tickets which were 80 Rs/person. The zoo was well organised and beautifully maintained. We have to walk around 3 km inside the zoo to fully cover it. It will take around 2 hours of time minimum for completely seeing the zoo. It was an great experience. We spent two and a half hours inside the zoo. Once we came outside at 12 p.m the weather has became very hot which we didn't recognized much inside the zoo because of the trees around.

We then took an Uber auto to our hotel, Sepoy Grande. Uber auto's are cheaper way to travel in Mysore. If we call local autos directly they charge us very high. Our hotel was a 3 star hotel and rooms were very well maintained. We took some rest at hotel as we were very tired of the long bus journey and walk inside zoo.

At around 2 o'clock we took an auto and went to Garuda mall near city bus stand and palace. It was not fully operational then and only few outlets were there. We had lunch from KFC inside mall. After that we walked to Mysore palace.

The entrance fee to palace was 70 Rs/person. I would say that it is much worth visit for the price. The architectural beauty of the palace is undescribable by words. It is a very huge palace and there is a lot of area around the palace which is well maintained. Photography is not allowed inside the palace and so the majestic inside beauty of the place can only be captured in our minds. The place was so crowded and it will be like this most times. This makes little uncomfortable to enjoy the beauty but we must adjust that as everybody deserves to enjoy this historical wonder. We spent almost one hour in and around palace.

Then we decided to go to Chamundi hills where the famous Chamundeshwari temple is located. It is at a distance of 13 km from Mysore town and there are buses available frequently. We got a bus a 4 p.m and it took around 45 minutes to reach there. The journey was very good and we really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of hills on the way as coming from the crowded palace. We can get distant view of Mysore town from this hill. Despite the less crowded journey in bus, once we reached the temple area, it was very much crowded. There were full of private vehicles and taxis there which was creating blocks near the temple parking. We walked near to the temple and there was a big queue to get inside the temple. Since we were going by bus and we were not sure about the return bus timings we decided not to go inside the temple. We got a glimpse of temple tower from outside. There were lot of small shops for snacks outside the temple.

We then took a return bus to Mysore and reached back at city bus stand at 6 o'clock. We spent some time around the city and inside Garuda mall as we have to see the palace illuminated which is done for 5 minutes between 7-40 and 7-45 p.m everyday except Sundays. On Sunday its 45 mins from 7 to 7-45. So at around 7-45 we seen the majestic Mysore palace illuminated in beautiful lights. This was the best experience of the whole trip.

After the lighting is finished we got an auto back to the hotel. There was an small juice shop near our hotel and we had one of the best mango juices in our life from there. We ordered dinner through swiggy and after having that went to sleep.

Day 2

Next day morning we checked out from hotel and went to the Mysore suburban bus stand to catch the bus to Bangalore. We had breakfast from an near by restaurant. Our bus came at around 9-30 a.m. It was a 3 hour journey to Bangalore and we reached there around 12-30 p.m. We got down near Mysore road metro station and took the Namma metro ride to Mg road. My sister is working at Bangalore and that's one of the reason we included Bangalore in this trip. Since it was Sunday, traffic was much lesser there.

My sister came to the station and then we took an auto to Savoury restaurant for having lunch. It was an Arabian restaurant with some delicious dishes. All the food tasted very good. After lunch we went for small shopping at commercial street. After shopping, at around 4 p.m we went near Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka. It is a beautiful building build under Neo - Dravidian architecture. We spent half an hour there and took some photos from outside as visitors are not permitted inside the building premises without proper authorization.

After that my sister left and myself and wife took the metro from Vidhana Soudha station to Lalbagh. It was a 30 mins ride with an interchange at Majestic station. We reached Lalbagh by 5 p.m. Lalbagh botanical gardens is one of the largest botanical gardens in India and is the most visited tourist attraction in Bangalore. It plays a major role in naming Bangalore as the city of gardens. The garden was spread over an area of 240 acres with a wide variety of flowers, plants and trees as well as we can find different species of birds there. There was also an lake inside Lalbagh. Overall, it was a great place to spent an evening with your friends or family.

We then took an 30 mins metro ride from Lalbagh to Yeshwantpur metro station which is near to the Yeshwantpur railway station. We booked our return ticket to Thrissur from here on Yeshwantpur - Kochuveli Garib Rath express. We reached there at 7 p.m. We had dinner from an near by restaurant and then waited for the train at station. The train came on time and we started our return journey at 9 p.m. Reached back at home on next day 6-30 a.m. Overall this was a great trip to remember as this was our first trip after marriage.
