That depends where are you staying. Like even 500 is enough for a decent room in cities like New Delhi but in places like Andaman islands, or Goa in peak season, even 5000 can't buy you a good stay.

Went to Himachal Pradesh from Delhi. Stayed at the GHNP forest guest house and went for trekking. All under 4500 including travel, fooding and lodging. good for budget travelers. not for luxury travelers. will soon be updating the details of the trip.

UpvoteCommentGwalior is also an economical place which you can visit. if you are coming from Delhi in Taj Express ticket price is approx 250/- INR one way. Economical hotels are available under INR 1000/- per night. You can go to 1. GOPACHAL PARVAT, which houses several Mahavir Jain Stone Statues.
2. Gwalior Fort, houses Maan Singh Palace and several temples, a gurudwara, view point ( gives a good view of Gwalior City Below and located on Gopachal parvat. so no extra travel expense.
3. Tansen Makhbara ( Tansen's tomb).
4.Jayvilas Palace.
