Though the currency value is low, expenses are not. Vietnam is ok as long as you eat non-veg (pork, beef in specific). If you are vegetarian or just eat chicken/egg then it is quite expensive. Entry fees are cheap in few places, where as few are too high. Activities - like cave exploration, trekking, cruise costs high. Read this blog for more details, I have summarized my recent visit: Comprehensive Guide http://lifeoutsidecubicle.com/a-comprehensive-guide-for-backpacking-across-vietnam/ Da Nang http://lifeoutsidecubicle.com/things-to-do-in-da-nang/ My Son http://lifeoutsidecubicle.com/my-son-sanctuary/ Best Places to Visit in Vietnam http://lifeoutsidecubicle.com/stunning-destinations-of-vietnam/ Cambodia is by far the most expensive place in South-East Asia (Except Singapore) in terms of entry tickets, internal travel costs, food, and even accommodation. I am in the process of putting up a comprehensive guide, you can reach out to me @ourlifeoutsidecubicle (Facebook) or @lifeoutsidecubicle (Instagram) and I can give more details. Happy travelling.

Hi, Cambodia and Vietnam are probably the cheapest countries for travelers in Southeast Asia. For three weeks, 1000$ should be more than enough to cover your costs.
