I'm planning to visit pondicherry soon. I want to know if Pichavaram Mangrove Forest is worth the visit?? Also how to reach there and how much it would cost ?

It’s absolutely worth the visit...but remember to take a row boat instead of motor boat.row boat let’s you explore interiors but a little expensive when compared to motor boats.the expenses would be around 309-500 per person at max.

Hi yes it really is a beautiful spot. It takes around 5 hrs from Chennai and 2 hrs from pondicherry, The boating experience here is worth a try. you can try either a motor boat ride or a row boat. June - December is a great time as u can expect greenery.

Row boating will give you better experience.they will charge 300 for 2 hour in going inside mangrove forest .

First, you have to go from Pondicherry to Chidambaram via Cuddalore( 60Km) and from there pichavaram is 10–12 Km. Things to do You can spend a few hours (max 8 hrs) boating in the backwaters. There is a beach nearby which you can explore. A restaurant managed by the tourism department where you can try the locally sources fish and shrimps. Happy journey

Should totally visit it. It’s the second biggest mangrove forest in the world. We hired a cab and it costed us 1650 from Pondy

Hey Himanshu. Its a good place, I have been there twice and its worth it. Reaching there, you can hire scooters in Pondy and ride all the way. Or you can catch a bus till Chidambaram, and from there you will get another bus to Pichavaram. Go by row boat. The boat person will ask for extra money (500- 800 if you want to go in the interiors of the mangrove. You can try bargaining.
