I would suggest you not to book packages. Megalaya is cheap and package tours charge you 3 times

Budget friendly then if possible try planning yourself and check trips of meghalaya by fellow travellers here

The locals are very friendly and helpful. But you may need assistance with regards to the roads or the treks or mountain passes, so that you don't get lost.

Yes, its safe in and around the cities and touristy places. Some places might be risky sometimes. But nothing in particular for a solo traveler

They majorly accept Turkish lira there local currency and even some places they accept euros , you can withdraw cash from ATM's it is better to have access to your money more than one way
upvoteUpvotemessageComment
Turkish lira is accepted. If you have a multicurrency card...then its the best.Alternatively u can use your own debit/credit cards too.

Goa would be cheap and less crowded at that time but you won't get shacks for stay near beaches due to monsoon time. Days can be very hot and humid but then depends on your tolerance.

To reach Jolly Buoy Island, you will have to first reach Wandoor by road. Wandoor is 30 kms from Port Blair and the best mode of transport is the government bus. Regular bus service is available from Aberdeen Bazaar bus stand at Port Blair. It is best to catch the 7.30 am bus, which reaches Wandoor Jetty by 8.30.

The route written by Pratik is very much right. but to surf jolly buoy island, you have to get permit in advance. our hotel's care taker had arranged this permit after trying for consistent two three days. in Oct. 2017 we have paid 800₹ p.p. remember this is only permit rate. after reaching wandoor, one should have to purchase ship tickets, and glass bottom ride. overall a costly deal for that day, but it is totally worth. jolly buoy island is under control of forest depends and they control the visitors per day very limited. so try two three days advance. in addition to Pratik's answer, reach early as he said because not many ferry run for this island. and it remains opened only upto 12 o'clock. after that all tourists have to vacate the island.

Hire a bike or car would be a better...! because I have been to kerala and I absolutely love it..! but the irony here is very few boards are in English! They prefer Malayalam boards... so it would be easy for you to get transported from one place to another

Velas is a small eco-village in Ratnagiri district which is famous for Olive Ridley turtles that visit the Velas beach every year to lay eggs. At Velas, turtle conservation movement is undertaken by the villagers. An NGO named Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra started the conservation and now the Gram panchayat and villagers’ committee has taken over the responsibility to conserve Olive Ridley Turtles by providing protection to their eggs. Every year, the tiny village of Velas, in Maharashtra, bears witness to a truly heart-warming sight, as thousands of newly hatched Olive Ridley turtles take their first steps towards the big blue sea. You can be a spectator of this marvelous scene by going on a trip to Velas turtle festival.
