Spend one night on houseboat it's a very good experience. But one may get bored if it's more than one I believe. Beaches of Alleppey are also very beautiful so, you can try any resort near beach.

Hello Varsha, God's own country...! Sea food is just awesome. Kumarakom & Alappuzha are all about backwaters If you rent a house boat, they will take you for a long in day time & cook for you. You can dance, eat, enjoy, travel through backwaters & in night time they will park at a place & u can stay in them. If you stay in resort, to travel around backwaters, again you have to hire a boat at least to enjoy the purpose of visit. Feel free to ask more questions if necessary Have a wonderful stay...!

If you r a couple and like spending time together then you can go for house boat.
as such house boat will move during day but at night it is parked on a side and then it becomes boring as u have nothing to do .
so better you stay at resort in backwater and just take a day ride in house boat excluding night stay
I stayed at cocobay resort kumarakom for 1nt and then house boat picked me from hotel itself and stayed 1 nt on houseboat
check out for cocobay resort u will not regret booking it

But you can try staying in both for each day....because the backwaters side resorts have serenic views of nature while House boat gives you once in a lifetime experience!!
