Day 1

After researching so many places to spend two days in Kerala we landed up in this heavenly location in June 2015. The name of our stay was Paradise resort and it Truly was one.

My husband, although a native of Kerala had not done any sightseeing in our land, he was brought up in Mumbai. On that note, myself having lived in Kerala for 20+ years since birth had never seen Kumarakom before. So in all ways, we were so excited about this journey.

We decided not to take a taxi and instead we got down at Kottayam railway station and got an auto to Kumarakom. The person charged about 250 if I remember correctly. The road was a little bumpy and narrow. On the way we could see an array of similar resorts and homestays. As we reached the place we were welcomed with a drink and our luggage was shifted to the small cottage room overlooking the canal.

The artificial canal was surrounded by a beautiful garden. One could see the Vembanad lake and a large swimming pool by the lake looking straight from the entrance. The office and canteen were located near the entrance, the architecture was like old ancestral homes with plenty of showpieces made of clay and wood. Overall the arrangement looked so inviting and peaceful.

We ordered dishes for lunch as they said all the items are freshly prepared. Needless to say, the meal was out of the world. All the Kerala dishes just amazing. We spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoyed the evening at the pool. It rained during day and the view of raindrops on the canal was so pretty that we forgot all other worries. It was truly a magical time. As it was off season the crowd was very less which was a plus point. We could have the pool mostly for ourselves.

On day 2 we ordered appam & stew (potato gravy made in coconut milk) for breakfast. We ate and ate till the tummy said no more please. :) We clicked so many pictures and I must say the true serenity of the place couldn't be captured in any camera. When we met the owner we had to praise her for the wonderful decor and arrangements. The rooms were so neat and was even equipped with electric kettle and coffee/tea mix. In the evening we visited the bird sanctuary in an auto, but to our disappointment we couldn't see much birds and it was a long walk along muddy paths. It started raining heavily when we were midway and we had to walk back fast before it was dark. I will not advice anyone to visit this place. Rather you should sit back and relax by the lakeside with a coffee and some music. You may also avail the house boat service of the resort at an additional cost.
