Hey Monal, if you would like to see the northern lights, you can go to Iceland or Norway. You have to keep in mind they are expensive countries. I have visited both of them in winters. And I would chose Iceland over Norway for it. In Norway you will be more or less bound to the cities and if you want to go to multiple cities, the only suitable way is to use train(only in souther part) or flights. So going to multiple cities can increase the budget significantly. On the other hand the Ring road in Iceland is accessible 12 months a year. You can do a road trip of the full road or just the southern part(Golden circle). In Iceland you will have 4-5 hours of actual sunlight and in Norway depending upon where you go, you can get anything between 4 hours to no sunlight at all. The capital of Iceland is much more lively and happening than the capital of Norway. The big plus for visiting Norway, particularly Tromso is that you can do whale watching, which is an amazing experience. Also the sun never rises there in the winters, but you do have an hour or two of twilight. The sky is pretty beautiful then. If you want to visit other European cities, you can go to east or central Europe, if you are lucky you can see the cities under snowcover, which makes them pretty! But you have to be comfortable walking around in freezing temperatures. You can have a look at some pictures of norway, icealand and other places on my instagram https://www.instagram.com/ravjitwanderer/ You can follow me there if you like the pictures :) And feel free to ask more questions.

If you like to see the snow or the northern lights - Id suggest go to any northern hemisphere technically any country above Himalayas - Turkey, Europe (still recovering from the beauty of their well lit Christmas lights), US, Canada (could be too cold too) if you like the warmth in Summer, you should check out the southern hemisphere (Argentina, Peru, New Zealand, Australia) if you have more specific questions - I can help to answer

I recently came back from Sri Lanka [I visited it in the last week of Dec] and it's perfect for winters! Similarly, you can visit Nepal and Bhutan during winters.
