Travelling is fun but when it comes to hidden adventures, it becomes exciting and interesting. South side of India is not only famous for food and culture but it is also famous for some unheard adventure places, which most of the travelers have no idea about.
When we talk about the south we cannot exclude the Karnataka side, a small city of Mysore which is filled with unheard stories of the Royal king of Mysore.
Among all the stories the most believable story is of the curse on Wadiyar Dynasy, the story took place in the year 1612. There was a Queen called Alamelamma, wife of King Tirumalaraju, who ruled the powerful Vijayanagar Empire. The King suffered from a terminal disease and died however his widow Queen Alamelamma had a large amount of precious jewellery, since she was a widow she was not permitted to wear any jewels.hence she donated the jewels to the temple of Goddess Sri Ranganayaki.
Once Raja Wadiyar sent emissaries with a request to get the jewels from the Queen. In return Only the pearl-studded nose ring was returned by Alamelamma, the king got upset, he again send his army to Talakad to ask her once again but she refused this time also because of which the king’s ego got hurt and he seized the Talakad, To escape the Mysore army, Queen Alamelamma jumped into a whirlpool in the river Kaveri at Talakad along with the rest of the jewels, however before jumping to her death she cast the legendary curse on Raja Wadiyar and his entire dynasty.
Her curse was” May Talakadu becomes a barren land, Malangi turn into a whirlpool and may Mysore kings never beget children”
And this is actually true for around 400 years the Wadiyar Dynasty never had any child. This prompted the king to adopt a child in order to continue the dynasty and protect the future of the throne.
Talking about Talakad most parts of Talakad and its temples lie under sand and Malangi village in present Mysore district is slowly eroding due to being infested with whirlpools.
After hearing the death of Queen Alamelamma Raja Wadiyar was repenting, and hence he had an idol of Queen Alamelamma made in gold, placed in the Mysore palace. Next time when you visit Mysore palace you could relate to all this with the history behind each antique pieces.
Apart from this her huge pearl nose-stud adorns the Goddess Ranganayaki. Hence, Mysore Dasara festivities are essentially grand and inside the palace, a formal pooja of Queen Alamelamma is done for this very reason
That was all the unheard story of Raja Wadiyar.
But on a happy ending note the curse is said to be broken as the King and Queen of Mysore, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar and Trishika Kumari, became parents of a baby boy on December 7, 2017. So maybe, the Wadiyar Dynasty has been forgiven by a Great Queen Alamelamma or the dynasty has found a way around the curse by opting for adoption.
