Manali – Khardung La Cycle Ride

This is the mecca of Mountain Rides in India and a veritable Bucket List Item for all Cycling Buffs.

Dates: 6th – 14th July ’19

Cost: Rs 32,500 per person

Itinerary
  • Reach Manali and Our ground team will tie up with you and decide on the meeting point.
  • Thereafter you are transferred to your hotel, where you meet up and acquainted with other fellow riders.
  • After getting some rest and post Lunch, we head out for a short orientation/acclimatization ride.
  • In the evening we retire early, give our bodies a complete rest before the start of our expedition the next day.

  • Altitude: 3320 Meters
  • Duration: 5-6 Hours
  • After an early morning breakfast, we will be Starting our Manali – Khardung La cycle tour from the hotel itself. Hop on the bikes to begin this memorable journey riding through this valley laid with colorful flowers in the fields. The landscape it feels was specifically designed for an adventure-seeking cyclist. Riding through hairpin curves the road leads us to the small town of Marhi.

  • Meters Duration: 7-8 Hours
  • The day will begin with a climb of 12km to the Rohtang pass, at Rohatang snow peaked glaciers await us in the line of the Horizon. After some relaxation at Rohtang, we descend towards the River Khoksar. After a while of easy riding, we cross Sissu at the foothills of Pir Pinjal range. Later we encounter mountain streams flowing over the roads to reach Keylong.

  • Altitude: 3820 Meters
  • Duration: 6-7 Hours
  • With an easy start of the day up to Patseo. Today a rusty rocky terrain awaits us as we pass the tiny hamlet town of Jispa. There is much descend before the climb towards Patseo. Also, today is the first time we experience complete Isolation from the outer world. The day comes to an end as we make a touchdown in Patseo. Overnight at the camp after dinner.

  • Duration 4-5 Hours
  • After an early morning bite, we gradually ascend towards the 2nd pass on this route ‘Baralacha La’, via Zing zing bar. Today we do our climb mostly on tarmac surface, with less traffic.
  • After crossing the ‘Naughty Baralacha La’, the entire topography of the region changes and we get the first glimpse of the Mountain Desert. Thereafter we descend down to Bharatpur …and from there on taking the rolling terrain to Sarchu.

  • Cycling: 80 Km,
  • Altitude 4750 Meters
  • Duration 8-9 Hours
  • Brace yourself for a challenging ride today, as we will cross two mountain passes in a day. From our campsite, it’s a rolling terrain till the start of Gata Loops, from where we start climbing. After climbing up 22 Loops, we can take a breather with some rolling terrain for few km, before we again ascend to 3rd Pass on this route ‘Nakee La’. We will also be passing through the Lachlung La pass today. The view en route is so mesmerizing that you hardly notice the hard work. From the pass, we will descend to Pang, and relax in the stay domes for the night.

  • This morning only a 5 km climb and you will touch the most beautiful route of your journey called Morrie plains. Scenic beauty with full metal and well-maintained roads. This ride takes you to Taglangla pass after 45km of strenuous climbing. Taglangla pass is 5328meters from the sea makes way for a scenic descend towards Lato. Thereafter a zippy 37 km downhill awaits us, to reach our destination of the day Lato.

  • Altitude 3600 Meters
  • Duration 7-8 Hours
  • We take it easy today and start at leisure.
  • Along the River Indus, we ride from Lato/Upshi into the main town of Ladakh ‘Leh’. En route we would crossing and also visit few main monasteries of the region ‘Hemis’, ’Thiksey’ and ’Shey’.

  • After an early breakfast, we leave for Khardungla pass, the world’s highest mountain pass. You climb past Karakorum and Zaskar mountains to reach Khardungla. We cycle through the scenic valley on the world’s highest motorable road to the top of this journey with a sense of achievement that has no parallel. Celebrate this moment of pride and success with your bike and your fellow riders. Ride or Drive to our hotel in Leh for dinner celebration and to rest for the night.

Exclusions
  • Anything and Everything NOT mentioned in the Include Section

1) It is compulsory to wear a helmet for the entire duration of the ride. Riders without a helmet will not be permitted to start.

2) For night riding, bicycles must be equipped with front and rear lights attached firmly to the vehicle. Lights must be fully functional at all times. If lights will not be working you are not allowed to ride.

3) Every rider must use their lights. All riders must wear a reflective vest that clearly places reflective material prominently on the front and back of the rider. If you will not be wearing reflective vests you are not allowed to ride.

4) This ride is open to any amateur cyclist regardless of his or her cycling affiliations. Riders (under the age of 18) must get a “consent form” signed by his or her parent or legal guardian.

5) To participate in this event, a rider must fill out the registration form, sign a “waiver of liability”, and pay the registration fee.

6) Each rider must be covered by liability insurance, either by a group policy or by a personal policy.

Cancellations made within 7 days of the ride, full cost shall be charged.

Cancellations made within 15 days of the ride, 50% of the cost shall be charged.

Cancellations made within 30 days of the ride, 25% of the cost shall be charged.
