Manali – the valley of Gods is a hill station / summer retreat nestled in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. Named after sage Manu, this is the place where life was recreated after the great flood. We are all said to be the children of Manu. Old Manali is still the untouched, unspoilt part thronged by visitors from all parts of the world.
Apart from having a mythological connection, the mountains and the cold temperature throughout the year do have an impact on human senses as we spend some time in the region.
Ancient temples, river streams, pine trees, fast food cafes and lounge zones, handicraft shops, narrow lanes, tourists / hippies, stone and wooden cottages with thatched roofs, a homestay / hostel in every second home, apple / plum / pear orchards, unspoilt nature, almost everyone smoking up… are few of the sights or rather characteristics synonymous with Old Manali. Almost everyone is busy doing something or the other, there is some energy in the air or laziness or just cannabis smoke, it is difficult to tell.
People staying in this region take a lot of pride being able to afford this luxury or not being able to afford the city life. Life in the mountains is not for everyone, yet everyone wants to be there or wants something out of it.
