Roorkee Tourism and Travel Guide

Roorkee serves no touristic purpose unless you're on your way to the hill stations of Uttarakhand (Dehradun, Mussoorie onward). The place is well known among techies across the country for its renowned Indian Institute of Technology, which boasts of having the oldest engineering department in India and admittedly has a magnificent 25 acre campus, which dates back to the 19th century. Another saving grace of this city is the Roorkee Group of Museums and Archives, an army museum established in 1978, containing voluminous documents, historic books, paintings and also a display of weapons used by the Indian Armed Forces. If you happen to be desperately looking for a place to beat the summer heat, Crystal World makes for a fun trip with its artificial pools and water swings. The city doesn't really slack in culinary style, for restaurants such as Pi, Olive, Sarovar Portico and Vicky Family Dhaba are well known for their Indian and international dishes.
