Varanasi, the city of ghats and spirituality, is a place that lives in your heart long after you've left. As a group of six friends traveling together, our visit to Varanasi was a journey of exploration and soul-stirring experiences. While every corner of the city had its charm, the evening we spent at Dashashwamedh Ghat stood out as the highlight of our trip.

Raahi Luxury Stay: Our Perfect Base
Our home for the trip was the luxurious and welcoming Raahi Luxury Stay, located in Ramapura, Luxa. The moment we entered, the host, Rajat Agrawal, greeted us with such humility and warmth that we immediately felt at home. The homestay offered a perfect blend of comfort and cultural richness, giving us a serene space to unwind after our busy days exploring the city. Rajat’s calm and friendly nature made him the perfect guide, as he shared tips and helped us plan our days.

The Splendor of Dashashwamedh Ghat
On the second evening of our stay, we headed to the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat, one of the most iconic ghats along the Ganges. This ghat is renowned for the Ganga Aarti, a ritual that pays homage to the holy river. We arrived just before sunset, securing a spot amidst hundreds of devotees and tourists eagerly waiting for the ceremony to begin.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the atmosphere transformed. Priests dressed in saffron robes performed the aarti with synchronized movements, holding massive brass lamps that radiated golden light. The chants of Vedic hymns, the sound of conches, and the rhythmic beats of the drums created a transcendent ambiance. The Ganges sparkled with the reflection of diyas (lamps), and the fragrance of incense filled the air, making it an experience that felt otherworldly.
Reflections and Togetherness
Watching the aarti with my friends was a moment of deep connection—not just with each other but with the spiritual essence of Varanasi. Rajat had advised us to release floating lamps into the Ganges after the ceremony. Following his suggestion, we lit the lamps and made wishes as they floated away, merging with the river’s eternal flow.

Returning to the Warmth of Raahi
After the mesmerizing ceremony, we returned to Raahi Luxury Stay. Rajat greeted us with freshly brewed Banarasi chai, which was a perfect way to end the day. We spent the evening in the cozy lounge, sharing our thoughts about the ghat’s divine energy and the unique charm of Varanasi.
