Lesser-travelled coastal Karnataka in southern India is home to a tapestry of breathtaking scenery that includes sun-drenched harbours, less explored beaches, and surging mountains with ancient relics. The Western Ghats on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west define this picturesque region, which is made up of the three districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshin Kannada.
Dakshina Kannada
Dakshina Kannada is bounded on the west by the Arabian Sea and protected by the Western Ghats to the east. Its borders are as follows: Kodagu to the southeast, Hassan District to the east, Kasaragod District in Kerala to the south, Udupi District to the north, and Chikkamagaluru District to the northeast. The district's main city and headquarters is Mangaluru.
Nestled on the coast, Mangaluru (Mangalore) serves as a handy and enjoyable stopover between Goa and Kerala. It has retained its old-world beauty with its meandering, narrow lanes bordered by coconut trees, charming homes with roofs made of terracotta tiles, stunning beaches, temples, and cathedrals, as well as the scent of spicy coconut curries.
