The Har ki Dun Trek is a 50-kilometer trek in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand, in the northwest of the state. It is famous for its cultural significance and scenic beauty. It was climbed in 1937 by Jack Gibson, a teacher at Doon School. People call it the "Valley of Gods" or "Dhun(sound) of Shiva". Every year, a festival welcomes Someshwara, who is Shiva with drums.
The trek traverses the Garhwal Himalayas and showcases ancient villages and landmarks. You will see snow-capped mountains and green meadows. The walk starts in late March and can be slippery due to snow. The flowers bloom in April, and the weather is pleasant in the spring. August is a special time for the Har ki Dun celebration.
The journey itself is not too difficult—25 km only. Two days are required from Dehradun to Sankari and back. There is a beautiful lake named Marinda Tal, a beautiful lake formed by glaciers flowing on the route to Borasu Pass Trek. The Hata Range in the Hata Valley has breathtaking views, and global warming has affected the Jaundhar Glacier at the foot of the Swarg Rohini Range.
Overall, the trek is truly amazing and will definitely transform your summer vacation into an unforgettable experience.
