The Dharamshala War Memorial pays tribute to the heroes who laid down their lives in the battles of 1947-48, the Indo-China War of 1962, 1965, and 1971, as well as UN Peace Operations.
A pleasant walk through the landscaped gardens with pine trees takes you through the heart of this monument.
This remarkable memorial consists of a Fallen Soldier Guard covered by 3 Grand panels crafted in Black marbles of 24 feet height. The 3 curved black marbles represent the 3 wings of the armed forces. On the 5 sides of these 3 panels, are engraved the names of soldiers who laid their lives in the wars and peace keeping missions and serves as a powerful symbol of remembrance of their courage and sacrifice. The sixth side consists of a mural creation symbolizing the ever burning flame of National freedom on which these golden words are marked" TO EVERYMAN UPON THIS EARTH DEATH COMETH SOON AND HOW CAN A MAN DIE BETTER THAN FACING FEARFUL ODDS, FOR THE ASHES OF HIS FATHERS AND THE TEMPLES OF HIS GODS."
The memorial complex also contains tanks and plane replicas, a landscaped map of our beloved country India and a pathway through the woods for a refreshing walk, making it a soulful and memorable affair.
The timings to visit this beautiful memorial are 6am to 8am. The entry fee to the memorial is Rs. 20/- per person.
The place is located nearby HPCA Stadium Dharamshala. So you can plan your visit accordingly visiting both the places in one go.
