If you have never been to Dharamshala you should be, i too will be visiting the same place in the first week of January. and will aslo cover Mcleodganj.

Hill stations are amazing - Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, Yercaud, Kudremukh, Chikmangaluru etc Beaces - Pondicherry and Goa December is on season and will be a good trip
