You can land at srinagar airport, and take a cab to visit kargil, sonmarg, gulmarg.. These two places are almost the same just that gulmarg is better than sonmarga and you can ride the world's highest cable car which will take you to phase 2. You can shop for kalamkari saree, shawl, paashmina shawl, jewellery, dry fruits in srinagar. You can stay in boat houses in srinagar. Gulmarg is a 2 to 3 hr drive from srinagar Airport. It's better if you have done your bookings in advance. I'll recommend fluorescence hotel in gulmarg.

Check sonmarg, gulmarg, pahalgam, kargil, Ladakh and eastern part. October would be winter starting to do check the road conditions before as some are closed during winters.

In the first 2days complete the local sightseeing by opting for a beautiful Shikara ride in Dal lake, Mughal garden, Shalimar bagh. Go for shopping at the local stores buy shawls,beautiful wooden carved boxes and fo drink kahwa they're too good. We stayed at Welcome hotel infront of Dal lake.
One personal suggestion go for lunch/dinner at Shamyana its very good. Then you may go to Gulmarg,Sonmarg for 2daystrip
Then if you want to stay somewhere beautiful go to pahalgam its heavenly. We stayed there for 1night. We loved the stay.The locals are very good.
