Just the basics, prefer a rucksack. Roll the clothes, use small plastic bags. Avoid any unnecessary items.

You can visit places in Maharashtra or Rajasthan. There are plenty of places you could visit like Mumbai, Konkan, etc if you love beaches or you could visit Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
