Matheran, Lonavala are the hill station that can you explore on your feet. in Goa you can rent a bicycle and explore particular area. other than that if you don't want to hire a private vehicle, explore by city bus or state transport buses. in small cities auto rickshaws are also cheap way to explore.

Exactly that type of traveller I am. Not all towns have such good transport facilities. I am looking for the name of few of such places.
You can plan treks in Uttarakhand or Himachal.

I think you can write a full article on this. I have been to Pondy, Manali, Shimla and Varkala. This new year I am planning somewhere near Lucknow, probably Uttarkhand. This list will definitely help always.
Hey Arindam, In the following places you have no need to book any cab for local sight seeing : 1)Parvati Valley ( Malana, Kasol,Rashol,Kheerganga trek) 2)Agra and Fatehpur Sikri 3)Varanasi 4)Jaipur 5)Kolkata 6)Mumbai All places mentioned above can be covered using sharing buses or jeeps. There is no need to book any costly private cab. Hope this helps.
