After spending close to 7 days in Rishikesh, our next stop was Mussoorie-the Queen of Hills. It was a 3-4 hour journey from Rishikesh. It was a Good Friday and there was a massive influx of tourists in Uttarakhand. As we reached Mussoorie around 2pm, the entire Mall Road was jam packed. We reached to our hostel- 'Trees of Heaven', which was located 15kms from Mall Road- on the Kempty Falls Road. The evenings in Mussoorie are usually chilly, even in the months of April-May.
We settled down in the hostel by evening and went for a drive to Kempty Falls. One has to cross the crowded local market (famous for local handicrafts and souvenirs) to reach Kempty Falls. The place is beautiful with huge streams of gushing water falls but the same has been commercialized and tourists do not maintain cleanliness out there.
We left early morning from the hostel to explore the maximum of Mussoorie. We headed straight to Lal Tibba View point. One will witness breathtaking and scenic views of Nilkantha peak in Badrinath and Kedarnath peak from the Lal Tibba point. Though we could not witness the sunrise from the point, but we could witness the above mentioned peaks and it was a beautiful experience. It is one of the highest view points in Mussoorie.
We headed next to the Mussoorie Lake for some adventure activities. We went for the Ziplining adventure. It costs somewhere between INR 400-500 per person, but it is worth the cost and a must do activity in Mussoorie.
Our next stop was this buddhist temple, near the Dalai hills. As soon as we reached the entrance of the temple, positive vibes took over us and we spent sometime inside the temple. The view of the Tibetan colonies and mountains from the top of the hill is something to watch out for. It was not much crowded and was quite calm and serene atmosphere out there.
This is a 2km walk from the Mall Road and it will give you one of the best scenic views of the mountains and the valleys of Mussoorie. Not much crowded (as people do not prefer to walk such a long stretch), away from the hustle bustle of Mall road. We walked down the entire stretch covering the beautiful views of the valley, and reached to the last point of the stretch- Hawa Mahal view point. We witnessed the sunset from the view point and it was so pleasing to the eyes. We spent sometime there and then walked down straight to the Mall Road.
Spent sometime in the Mall Road. The view of Dehradun city is to watch out for from the Mall road when the entire city of Dehradun is lit up. Its amazing. The walk from Mall Road to Gandhi Chowk is a good 2km stretch and one can find street food, local handicrafts, sovenirs, readymade garments, etc. Mall Road is a good hangout point for everyone, especially in the evenings.
Other places to be covered in Mussoorie:
1. Company Garden (did visit but its too crowded)
2. Gun Hill point (though Lal Tibba is the best scenic point)
3. Cloud's end (could not visit due to time constraint but heard its very beautiful)
4. Sir George's Everest House (could not visit due to time constraint)
5. Mussoorie Lake
