The Markha Valley trek in Ladakh is one among the most diverse and gorgeous tramps in the Himalayan region . Itinerary
  • After breakfast, you will be driven to Skiu, the drive will be alongside the Zanskar River, it will take an hours f 3-4 to reach the Skiu bridge. There will be a local check post at Skiu Bridge, if they allows you to move forward, then you can move on till Skiu Village
  • If they did not allow you to go then, you will stop behind the bridge. Then your trek will start from there till Skiu. It will be of 2-hour trek. You will enter the tiny village the towering rock faces ahead of you are awe-inspiring
  • There is an attractive gompa on the top of the cliff. The village are the remains of 1000 years old royal residence. The pretty campsite is 400 m ahead among the trees lies by the tea tent
  • There will be tea and snacks ready for you , even the tents , kitchen , dining and all services will be ready by your arrival at campsite
  • Dinner will be served by our staff . And your night stay will at Skiu Campsite
  • After dinner there will be a little briefing about the next day route and treks
  • The trail to Markha is not too strenuous, rising about 300m over 22 km. Being at relatively low altitude it gets very hot in the sun
  • After breakfast, our staff will start packing tents and you should be ready for the Markha Valley , as you will lead by your guide and will move forward, every do's and don'ts will be instructed by our leading guide, and then you will start the trek to Markha
  • After trekking of 9 km you will cross a solid wooden bridge high above the water onto the left. After crossing 200m away from the valley there will be a stream running through the grasses , which will be your best source of water for a while . The trail will lead you through a hamlet called Chaluk and then you will cross a river at Tunespa (Thinlespa ), a village. You will be awe of the valley with Chortens and mani walls and the wonderful view back down the valley.
  • Approaching Markha you get first glimpse of the snow-covered slopes of Kang Yatse/Nimaling. This magnificent view of mountain commands the view for the next two days. After crossing the river on bridge by the campsite , it will take you to the main part of Markha Village. There your camps, foods, and all your services will be ready there at Markha
  • You will be served with tea, juice, snacks and dinner at night. And then off to tent for a good sleep
  • You will be served tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks , sweet dishes , pack lunch, water on time
  • Same as daily, after breakfast at camp, you will start your new day with a refresh and full of energy. The path keeps close to the river until reaching a wooden bridge crossing the river.
  • After crossing a river, the trail will lead you by a large rock spire mark the entrance to this valley. This is the beginning of Junglam , an extremely demanding route to Zanskar. Keep your trek on and approaching to the village Umlung, it will be a wonderful walk through the fields from Umlung to Hankar with the towering peak of Kang Yatse over the valley
  • And then you will be at Hankar Village. A beautiful village with a group of Chortens, mani walls and a beautiful gompa on a rocky ridge.There is good campsite just beyond the field. There your camps will be ready till you arrive, you can refresh there at campsite and as usual you will be served with all your meals services. Your tents will be ready to relax and after dinner you will be instructed by our guide for the next day
  • You will be served tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, sweet dishes , pack lunch, water on time
  • As usual, after a good breakfast at camp, the staff will start folding the camps to shift for the next camp Nimaling base. The trail then crosses a stream and winds through fields before reaching a river
  • You will meet the river Nimaling Chu, no need to cross the river, you will be guided by our guide, little further on there are some fascinating geological creations of large boulders balanced precariously on top of the consolidated earth spikes. The trail drops to a bridge, cross and continue up the other bank
  • After trekking of some 300m you will reach the Thachungtse Village, a lovely valley and its magnificent sight to see a slide and bound down the steep cliff with incredible agility. The trail continues to climb above Thachungtse and soon starts heading off to the south-east away from the main valley
  • On approaching to Nimaling , you will see the shepherd huts and sheep. The large flat-bottomed valley has a semi-permanent population of villagers who come up from Markha Valley to graze their livestock on the summer pastures
  • It is a beautiful and a remote place to camp and one can easily spend a day or two relaxing and exploring the surroundings and valley. However you should be warned or our guide will tell you that the weather can change rapidly at this altitude and you must be prepared for snow, even in summer
  • There will be everything ready tents, foods, tea, dinner and all. After dinner there will be meeting or discussions with guide for the next day
  • You will be served tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, sweet dishes, packed lunch, water on time
  • As usual, after a good and chilled morning you will do breakfast at camp and then start trek behind your guide and then it will leads you forward to a shepherds huts and to Kongmarula. This pass lies on the east side of the valley opposite to Kang Yatse
  • There's a simple bridge across the Nimaling chu which is replaced annually by shepherds however sometimes it get washed away by floods. Carry on eastwards. Soon a saddle in the ridges ahead comes into view; this is the Kongmarula
  • From the top there's a beautiful view of Zanskar range and of the icy walls on the month face of Kang Yatse . Until Chokdo the decent is particularly difficult for pack animals and very tiring for humans .It starts descending steeply from the pass for 300m and becomes more gentle only at a very end. After coming down the trail, you will be at Chuskurmo and after walking of 5km of hard going you will reach to a lovely village of Shang Sumdo. After a decent walk you will pass the next village Chokdo
  • There will be car/bus at Chokdo for your pickup
  • Get fresh at Chokdo and relax there and after a good rest you will drive back to Leh
  • After reaching Leh. Your night stay will be in hotel at Leh
