Khajjiar Lake

Khajjiar/ Khajjiar Lake, DalhousieAfter having breakfast at Zostel, we left for Khajjiar. Located at a distance of 25kms from Dalhousie, Khajjiar is a beautiful and green plateau surrounded by pine and deodar trees in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It's also known as Mini-Switzerland in India due to its resemblance with Switzerland. If you visit Khajjiar in winters, it's going to be an even amazing sight watching the snow-ladden Mount Kailash view from the Khajjiar lake and pine and deodar trees covered with snow all around.
Khajjar is known as mini Switzerland as it bears a very striking resemblance to latter’s topography. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest. The bowl-shaped, pine-ringed meadow with the lake in the center calmed my soul and gave adrenaline rushed body much needed rest. If you can ignore the ocean of people here then it is a beautiful place to actually feel the moment and live them!Next and probably the last destination for the day ‘Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary’ was the one I was waiting for the most. This is the place where my favorite film ‘Lootera’ (adapted from the book ‘Last leaf’) was shot- the most beautiful, cinematic moments were captured in the rest house. I couldn’t contain my joy and excitement even while I was very tired.

We headed towards Khajjiar. One can do activities such as zorbing, paragliding and horse riding apart from enjoying the nature. Few of us did zorbing while others horse riding. After spending a few hours, we left the place. Though the place is called the mini Switzerland of India, it failed to impress me because I didn't find anything awe-inspiring. It can be a part of your to-visit list, especially for those who wish to visit picnic-like places to sit and relax, but don't expect much out of this place.Later, we went to a park like place, the name of which I can't remember. It was a garden full of flowers and peace. After spending a little time there, we went to Dainkund peak. It was a little late for us to reach the summit, so we came back from midway. Though we were unable to see the view from the peak, whatever we saw from the mid point was amazing. The next stop was Panjpulla. It was getting dark, so we couldn't enjoy that spot too. We had food and went back to hotel.Next morning, we went to Panjpulla again to click a few photographs and then headed towards Chamera lake for boating. It was a clean water body and boating would relax your mind and body.
