Gangotri Tourism and Travel Guide

This is a Hindu pilgrim town that serves as the origin of the revered Ganges and has lots of mythological stories surrounding it. Gangotri sits atop the banks of the river Bhagirathi and one can reach here through buses operating regularly from Rishikesh, Haridwar or Dehradun. The place is primarily known for the Gangotri Temple and treks, the most renowned one being the one to Gaumukh glacier, the second largest in the country. Others treks include those to Nandavan, Mt. Shivling and to Kedar Tal and Vasuki Tal, which have crystalline lakes that are bound to take your breath away. Another recreational activity you can include in this mountainous expedition is fishing at Dodi Tal, which is home to the famous Himalayan trouts. The picturesque lake also has log cabins surrounding it for the purpose of resting and camping. Although bereft of any specific places to eat, the town has a plethora of tea and maggi stalls all around and tourist rest houses, where one can eat.
