Eklingji Temple

A few kilometers north of Udaipur is the small place of Eklingji. This is a holy place with more than 100 temples and the most important is that of Eklingji. Lord Eklingji is another name of Lord Shiva and this beautiful temple is built atop a hill. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated with lot of people every year. The idol of Lord Shiva is adorned with jewelry on this day. The temple was constructed by a Mewar ruler Bappa Rawal in the year 734 AD and since then is the presiding deity of the Mewar rulers. The temple is huge and intricately designed with stones. As you reach the entrance, you will find there are stairs on all sides that stretch down straight to the waters. The pillars and pyramids are very unconventionally designed. The main sanctum or mandap where you see the idol of Lord Eklingji has silver doors. The idols of Lord Ganesha and Karthikeya stand guiding their father. There is also an idol of Goddess Parvati in this sanctum. You will also be able to see the statues of Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and Yamuna inside the temple.
