Jantar mantar, Jaipur is one of the 5 architectural astronomical instruments built from 1724 and later by ruler of Jaipur Raja Sawai Man Singh. It is a monument of unique architecture which helps one to depict the eclipses, tracking stars' location as the earth orbits around the sun, ascertaining the declinations of planets, and determining the celestial happenings. This division of Jantar mantar is based on the design of the monument having same name which is built in New Delhi. It is one of the five Jantar Mantars' which are situated in different parts of the country India.

This astronomical instrument helped the Jyotishis(Astrologers) of India to calculate a Kundli for people born at a certain moment of time, the precise measurements of time, the position of sun and constellations and many celestial bodies and other planets of our solar system. The solid and humongous instruments made out of local stones are all scaled by various units that helped in all the calculations and predictions.

There are 14 major astronomical instruments present in the compound. All the 12 zodiac signs have their own set of stones and scales to predict and depict future of people born during a particular frame of time.
