The Siachen Glacier is located in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalaya Mountains just east of the Line of Control between India-Pakistan. It is the second longest glacier in the world. The highest combat zone on planet earth, Siachen glacier is one place where fewer soldiers have died on the line duty due to enemy fire than because of the harsh weather conditions. Most of the parts in this area are not accessible for the civilian as it falls under army control. Civilians cannot go beyond Panamik, a small town which is situated in Nubra Valley. Although there is trekking expedition arranged by the Indian Army once a year which gives permission to 40 civilians to trek the Siachen Glacier.
