Namdapha National Park
Namdapha National ParkNot only the third largest national park in the country, but also the leading protected area in the biodiversity hotspot in the Eastern Himalayas, this park in Arunachal Pradesh is home to all the four big cats - Leopard, Tiger, Snow Leopard and Clouded Leopard. It is extraordinarily rich in its biodiversity ranging from tropical moist forests to Alpine meadows which provide a home to its numerous fauna and avifauna species.
We also passed Hapoli, which our passengers informed us about. It is the administrative center and had small hotels and schools. Our destination lay further north, towards what was the 'old' Ziro. This 'new' Ziro had been built in the '50s when the 'old' one had started bursting at the seams. But, it was the old one we were interested in; where we would find Mr. Tatu and interact with the Apatanis.
Preferred as a world heritage site, Ziro remains a quaint sleepy district in Arunachal Pradesh known for its yellow fields and green mountains protecting it. Ziro in itself is an adventure as it requires a road trip of a day to reach it from the airport at Guwhati. At Ziro one can prefer to pick a home stay. The locals are very friendly and ready to help. Tiny back alleys and pathways lead into a spiral of village streets. Ziro’s soon going to be booming tourism, so one must visit it soon!
