1. Befriend budget airlines
It's a fact that booking on budget airlines will give you much better cost than an expensive one like Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates. The only compromise you have to do is pre-download some Netflix episodes and forget about the special meals!
2. Consider booking a stopover flight
If you can spare a few more hours during your journey, opt for stop over flights. This way you can save money of direct flight and explore another destination if it allows you time. Make sure to check incase you need a transit visa.
3. Be flexible for the cheapest time-frame
If you have to wakeup at five in the morning for an early morning flight and its cheaper than prime time take it! Being flexible with timings helps you opt for whichever flight that is the cheapest, compared to a more convenient time.
4. Keep an eye for deals, offers and coupons!
International flights can be expensive. Some airlines send birthday coupons with discount codes in it. And some run sales during off seasons. Keep an eye out for those and book your tickets in advance to save money!
5. Travel during low season
Off season means cheaper flights, hotels and less tourists! If you are okay with a rainy season instead of the summer, or going during peak summers instead of the winters, off and mid season are your best bets!
6. Avoid these days – Friday & Sunday
Usually people who are busy during the week always prefer to book their trips over the weekends. Which is why the flight tickets will be higher priced than the weekdays. Likewise flying on a weekday is cheaper than flying on a Monday or a weekday.
7. Use credit card points
Some credit card give mileage points every time you travel to a place. You can always use these points to get tickets or to even upgrade if you are travelling to a far off distance.
8. Contact the airlines for bargains
Sometimes calling the airlines directly can get better deals than booking through the website. It gives you a chance to talk to their customer service directly and ask them for discount codes or best prices. If you don't wish to call them, book through their website directly to save the third party mediator prices.
9. Book three to four months ahead for international trips
For the very lowest prices, the ideal time to buy international flights is three to four months prior to your departure date. Booking last minute, only a month in advance is a big no no! Prices start to noticeably ramp up 28 days in advance of departure.
10. Begin your international trip on Thursdays
Thursday being the mid-day is deemed to deliver more savings for an international flight. If you can work elsewhere besides a desk, fly on a Thursday and get in some work done once you land. Better than being stuck on a desk!
