Took a sleeper bus from Delhi to Rishikesh.Bus was supposed to drop us till Natraj Chowk but dropped us somewhere outside the city. From there , the bus operator had arranged sharing autos ( we didn't have to pay) till Natraj Chowk.
We reached our hotel around 6:30 a.m. We got some sleep , freshened up and had breakfast at a nearby restaurant.
On the first day , we mostly explored on foot .We walked to Ram Jhula.
We crossed to the other side of Ram Jhula and had lunch at the famous Chotiwala.
After having lunch ,we started walking again. We wanted to go inside Paramarth Niketan Ashram but it was closed for visitors.
Our next stop was Janki Setu.It was recently inaugurated and has separate lanes for pedestrians and vehicles.
From there , we walked to Chaurasi Kutiya/Beatles Ashram. It is a part of Rajaji Tiger Reserve and covers a large area with lots of greenery. The entrance fees for this place is 150/-. The place mostly has old abandoned buildings , meditation rooms with some graffiti . Unfortunately , there is hardly any maintenance of these old buildings/rooms but you can go inside and click some nice pictures.
We spent 1-2 hours exploring this place. It also has a canteen where we bought some refreshments.
After exiting , we started walking back towards Parmarth Niketan for the Ganga Aarti. We still had some time before the aarti so we stopped at a place called Kaafe for some snacks.
Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan.
After this we had a light dinner at Jai Neelkanth restaurant and went back to our hotel.
Reached Tapovan .Had breakfast at Cafe Power of Thoughts.
Post breakfast , we went to Lakshman Jhula.
We relaxed at the riverside and then went inside Terah Manzil temple .
From there , we went to Lakshman Temple.
Had lunch at Good Times Cafe , again with a beautiful view of river Ganga.
Post lunch , we wanted to go to Goa Beach but came to know that it was closed.
Next we went to Triveni Ghat for the Ganga Aarti .We got stuck in heavy traffic and got a bit late. But , even the Aarti started a bit late so we didn't miss much.
As we had a very heavy lunch , we didn't have dinner .Went back to our hotel room and ordered something light.
Reached Tapovan. From there hired a shared jeep to go to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple .It cost 200/- per head including the return journey.
It took around 1 hour to reach the parking spot and from there we had to walk for around 1 km to reach the temple. There was a long queue and it took some time for the Darshan .
While returning ,we asked the driver to drop us at Neer waterfall (Locally known as Neer Gaddu).Bought tickets and had to walk for around 1.5 km to reach the waterfall. The slope was steep , so it was more of a trek than a walk.
Unfortunately ,couldn't spend much time there , as we had to go back to the city and catch our return bus as well.
We were really worried as there were no autos or taxis available to return to the city.Fortunately , a city bus stopped for us.
After reaching the city , I collected Ganga Jal from the ghats near Ram Jhula and we had dinner at Chotiwala by the Ganges.
Reached ISBT just in time to catch our return bus .It was a memorable trip !!!
1.Rafting is closed during monsoons.
2.Throughout the city , especially near Ram Jhula , there a lot of shops selling clothes , Rudraksha , souvenirs, etc .You can buy as per your liking.
3.Food at all the places mentioned above was really good .We usually checked the Google rating of a place before going inside.
