A journey by the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train is an experience of a lifetime. Board this toy train from kalka station and travel in The UNESCO World Heritage listed train which chugs up the mountain.Outside the window, the landscape is a technicolor film- from the scorched foothills to pale green forests of chir to the dense green of blue pine and deodar. The ride is a celebration of slow travel and the speed is restricted by the speed gradient that it has to climb,but this allows for plenty of fascinating sightseeing along the way. The train took 5hrs to reach shimla covering the distance of 96 KM between from Kalka passes through 102 tunnels and 87 bridges.There are around 912 curves and sharpest curve is of 48 degree. In this journey you will also come across tunnel number 33 at barog which is 1.14 km long , a long straight tunnel in railways.Inside it, the engine’s amiable horn becomes a darkening roar before the train gently rolls into the station yard. Ps :- I belong to kalka only and I travelled in this toy train thrice. My experience had been wonderful each and every time and i always wish to travel again-again by this route to reach shimla.
