My 3-Day Memorable Trip to Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The beautiful archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar attracts thousands of tourists every year in India. These islands are well regarded for their calm and serene environs and are ideal places for soothing retreat. We have been there for 3 days. In this guide, we have come up with enough information to help you.

Andaman Bliss has come out to be a reliable travel agency for us to ensure added convenience in getting around. We wanted no compromise on our stay. So, we booked the best package we can get. It included getting around and staying.

I was quite surprised at the airport’s building which was way smaller than other airports in major cities of India. Port Blair Airport has limited facilities but I was relieved to see a travel agency rep ready to escort us to the hotel when we came out of the airport.

Check-in at Hotel Aries Grand

We were taken to a decent hotel. The facilities were decent and the room was pretty much as shown on the website. I didn’t pay any heavy amount so it was sufficient to our budget. For all travelers, one thing for sure is that there is no network connectivity across the Andaman Islands. Some hotels have Wi-Fi but it is available in the lobby only. Even phone service isn’t available always on Havelock and other smaller islands. We chose the hotel located in the proximity to the airport.

Day 1 – Port Blair

Day 1

We spent our first day in Port Blair. We visited Corbyn’s Cove beach which was very beautiful but highly populated. I found many people in shorts and t-shirts. We enjoyed the Jet Ski ride which was complimentary with our tour. It was a short and fun ride.

The Cellular Jail’s Light and Sound show was really spectacular. It goes without saying why it is known as the main attraction of Port Blair. It is something you shouldn’t miss when you are in Andaman. Once built by the British, the Cellular Jail is a well-known tourist attraction here. I found a lot of people praising this show while doing some research. I must say that this show didn’t disappoint me. In fact, I was amazed and felt proud as an Indian.

I have been to other light and sound shows, including the one at Akshardham Temple in Delhi. Different areas of the jail are lit up to introduce you to different events that occurred in the past. The narration plays for an hour with surround sound speakers. We attended the Hindi show in which the story was told. The spectacle of light and sound was really peaceful and mind-blowing. We headed back to our hotel after the show. You can find restaurants all around the island. But we couldn’t navigate because of no internet. So, we decided to head to the hotel and have dinner over there.

Day 2

Day 2 – Havelock Island

Next day in the early morning, we took a ferry from Port Blair to Havelock. I checked a lot of websites while planning the trip which had plenty of things to do in Andaman. But you have to go to different islands which are very far to enjoy all those activities. It took around 2 hours on a ferry to reach Havelock from Port Blair. So, we could only cover Havelock Island on such a short note.

Havelock Island is known to be the first halt for many tourists getting there. You can find a lot of accommodation options here. Don’t get confused with the pictures on the web. We stayed at a pleasant and simple Bluebird Resort.

We reached Radhanagar Beach just after getting there. It is considered to be India’s one of the best beaches. It was one of major highlights with clear, blue water, white sands and trees across the shore. You can easily find a calm and isolated place where you can relax away from the crowd. You can wear any swimwear you like as locals are polite and friendly. We enjoyed a walk across the trees after a lazy afternoon and went back to our hotel.

Day 3 – Activities in Havelock

We started day 3 with scuba diving. We arranged it for ourselves as it was not the part of our package. I had a great time because I had never enjoyed scuba diving in the past. I explored the coral reefs over the 1-hour course and enjoyed myself in the huge range of marine life by being so close to shorelines.

We headed to Elephant Beach after having this activity, on a speedboat. The island was closed as it rained before that day. So, we decided to go to Kalapathar Beach. It is ideal to have long strolls in the backdrop of a picture-perfect landscape.

Port Blair

We caught the ferry at 4pm on the same day to get back to Port Blair where we stayed at the hotel for last night in Andaman. I got a much needed getaway from my busy life on this trip. I went there in early November when the weather was almost perfect. Before our arrival, it had rained a couple of days before. It rained only once when I went there. Temperature hovers around 35 degrees Celsius. The islands were very safe for women and locals are courteous and respectful. It is the best quiet and laid back destination for everyone who wants a peaceful getaway. I hope the above itinerary will help you. Happy journey!

Important Note – You cannot take back any shells or corals you collect on the islands as these will be seized at the airport. I requested the staff so they allowed me to take one shell with me.
