Pilgrims come and go. Some worshipping, asking for forgiveness of their sins, seeking peace, finding happiness, and some just to experience the monumental shift in people's nature after visiting a pilgrimage.
Sangam was different but was unique in its own way. Sangam means a confluence and Allahabad, now Prayagraj, has not only a confluence of three rivers; River Ganga and River Yamuna, and for a fact a "Gupt saraswati" or the " the mythical Saraswati River", but of people as well in the form of Kumbh.
Allahabad as place has so much historical importance that many people give it credit for and that is not the case now. The city harbours people from all across the country and people from here can be found almost everywhere. Its vast diverse history can be seen the people day to say life, through food and through Sangam.
Triveni Sangam brings people to visit this city through out the year and this has becomes the source of income for many people over the years, these are boatmen of Allahabad, these boatmen take you to the center of the sangam where one can see the clear water from River Ganga meeting with the greenish water of River Yamuna or be the fisherman catching fishes for their livelihood.
The day started with idea that no matter what we( me and my folks, obviously) will go sangam darshan and we did but it was 4:30 pm in the afternoon that we were able to reach the ghat. It took us an hour more to make ourselves comfortable on the boat and ready to go.
On the way to the center you could feel the depth of the river and see swoops of cranes, many pilgrims returning, fisherman setting up there nets and in certain areas ashes of the final ritual of deaths to find peace in the holy rivers.
Its said that taking a dip in the center of sangam washes away all your sins and purifies the soul. The water in the center center was somehow not as deep as a couple of meters from there was. You could see all these people taking a dip and it was a sight. When I was the one to take the dip, i was a little scared but after the dip everything felt different it felt like a weight has removed from on top of you.
'It's an experience unlike any other and given the opportunity one should do it, but not in guilt for something rather to be a better version of yourself.'
