Urgam valley known for its fifth kedar "Kalpeshwar Mahadev" where lord Shiva's dreads (hair) can be seen. The temple is situated under a huge mountain rock. At Badrinath Highway 10km before joshimath Helang a small Hamlet turns towards Urgam Valley. From Helang it is 12kms to Devgram. Term Helang is a tibetan word which also shows presence of Tibetan or bhotiya coumminty travel route. Urgam Valley is majestic itself river Kalp Ganga flowing in the valley between huge mountains and green fields. We were staying at a Homestay Krishna Palace in Devgram at Urgam Valley which is 1 km from Kalpeshwar. Roads are fine they are very narrow as compare to Badrinath Highway, so make your heart strong to drive. I have posted few videos on my Instagram of the valley. Urgam is well know for Bhole's prasad "Hash" which is also the major source of income of the community but I request you to buy Rajma it is the best Rajma you will ever eat. Mid of October is best time to buy Rajma. Don't expect luxury hotels or resorts in the area. Home stay is like village home with less facilities available. Carry or call your homestay person before for food or what you want to eat.
Urgam valley has zero corona cases so nothing to be scared. I request you all to take precautionary measures for others. Badrinath Highway is under construction at Helang one car tyre was almost hanging on the valley. Driving is hectic if you are driving from Rishkesh or Dehradun. If coming from Delhi take a break. Devraprayag route is closed under construction and few roads are diverted plan your travel taking 5hrs extra. Register yourself at smarcity Uttarakhand portal if travelling from outside Uttarakhand. Also have to register at Uttarakhand Tourism chaar dham if planning to visit Badrinath, kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri.
Usually they were not stopping the vehicle but it could be because we have local number.
.
Kalpeshwar Mahadev doesn't have any trek it is on road have to walk 150meters only. There are few tourists at Kalpeshwar. You will find peaceful small trails and big trails to cover if you like trekking explore them. This is the only Kedar out of five which is open all 12 months.
.
