Summary - Inclusions Majkhali, a small village in the state of Uttarakhand is indeed a place of absolute green nature, clear water falls, Pahadi chicken meals, small cafes and colonial style cottages. Below I have tried to make easy, simple, step by step itinerary to Majhkali. Below #itinerary is planned in a way that you save time , money while travelling without missing out on anything. #Hotels, #Transport #Restaurants are suggested below. Each and every cost mentioned below is incl. #food , #stay , #ticket, #fuel , #car . You can choose hotels as per your #budget. My suggestions are based on my budget for the given trip and given day. We were 4 people who went on this trip last year on a long weekend.
1) Gurgoan to Ramnagar - We booked a car pool for 4 people from https://www.blablacar.in/ to leave at 9AM . We got a Swift dzire from Gurgaon to Ramnagar which is 280Kms at 625/- per person. Total we paid 2500/-. We reached Ramnagar at 3PM.
2) Ramnagar to Ranikhet - From Ramnagar we took a cab to go to Majhkhali. However, while booking the cab you can say Ranikhet and then before reaching you can request them to leave at Majkhali as it is only 7-8Kms difference. We paid 1900/- in total to reach Majhkhali. The route of 4hrs was beautiful with waterfalls and sun playing hide and seek all the time as we were moving ahead the air was getting cool to cold. Before heading to Majkhali, we got snacks and cold drinks for the night from Ranikhet as Majkhali is a small village and you may not get everything you need. Note- If your driver drops you only till Ranikhet you can take a sharing local cab at 20/- per person.
3) Majkhali - Our cab dropped us just outside the Airbnb. We checked in at 7PM at Kaafal Cottage. The cottage is at height so you will have to walk up for 5mins from the main road. However, it is worth the view as it oversees the entire valley on right and himalayan range view on the right. The Kaafal cottage has 6-7 rooms which are neat , clean , spacious , well maintained , it also has a garden equipped for bonfire. We booked a family room for 4 at 2500/- per night. 4) As we reached we ordered few starters and fixed our menu for the dinner as in small villages everything closes early and we were hungry too after 9hrs travel. We had set our tables for drinks and dinner at the bonfire. It was a pleasant evening with clouds accompanying us as we were sipping our drink.
1) We woke up at 8AM. We sat in the balcony looking at mesmerising valley for hours, we sat there with cups of tea and omelettes coming and going for 2hrs.
2) Hiking - We went for a walk around discovering the terrain , people and food. We walked for around 7-8 Kms in and around Majkhali. We made a new friend Roonie who accompanied us the entire day.
3) Lunch - Between Kaafal cottage and the village there is a small joint like Paan Shop with a sit out place having an amazing view. On our way back at 3PM we stopped by and had our lunch there Chicken Curry . Dal fry and Rotis for 4 ppl at 840/- . The point doesnt have a name. 4) Rain - We were back at the hotel by 5:30PM after a 6hrs trek. As we reached the hotel it started raining cats and dog. We wore our rain coats and sat in the garden, chilling in the rain . Ronnie accompanied us in the rain :-)
5) Evening - As we were the only ones staying at Kaafal Cottage. I requested the owner if we could cook by ourselves to which he agreed. We got some kitchen and made some Chicken Fry , Chicken Curry , Anda Bhurji for our starters and dinner. We had an amazing night with rain , music, drinks and wonderful food.
1) Woke up at 9am and planned to have a lazy day as we were suppose to leave at night.
2) We went to a nearby cafe and spent our entire day there playing UNO cards , having coffee , Sandwiches , Platters and juices one by one. We played UNO from morning 10AM to 5PM :-))))
3) We went back to the hotel and packed our bags to leave after 2 beautiful relaxed days. Left from the hotel at 7PM to reach Haldwani at 9PM. We booked a cab for 2000/- from Majkhali to Haldwani.
4) We reached Haldwani at 9:15PM had dinner at one of a famous local joint Shama Restaurant. Had amazing Chicken Korma, Biryani , Rumali Rotis , Dal fry @ 480/-
5) Took our next cab from Haldwani to Gurgoan for 4000/- . Reached home at 3AM and joined office in the morning.
