This was the BIG one! My 8th annual round-the-world trip in January 2013 and the year I would finally make it to my 7th continent...Antarctica. Due to the time involved getting to Antarctica and the fact that I had a little more free time than usual, I decided to extend the trip to 7 weeks. I again used frequent flier miles for the RTW ticket but the cost of the Antarctica expedition put this trip way over the top of my usual budget. But, Antarctica is one of those once-in-a-lifetime destinations and it was worth every penny. The full itinerary included:

My 2nd time at an Explora property (the first was on Easter Island) and it was equally superb. Perfect location inside Torres del Paine National Park and this was the view from my room.
During a 4-day stay in Phuket, I took an excellent day trip out to the Similan Islands.
From Sydney, it was on to the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef and a stay at this amazing resort.
A helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef was one of the most incredible things I've ever done!
