Gudibande fort and lake are a nice weekend outing place near Bangalore. If you are looking for a moderate trekking or hiking place near Bengaluru, then this is a very good option. Located within 100 km of the city, this interesting fort was built 400 years ago by Byre Gowda, a very interesting yogi cum chieftain. He was also known as Robin Hood of India and made even mighty Mughals to retreat from this area.
Gudibande Fort has seven interconnected levels and on top of the hill, there is a Shiva temple which was believed to be established by Rishi Viswamitra and Lord Rama. As per mythology, the temple has one of the 108 Jyotirlingas.
Bhairasagara Lake is very near the fort and also commonly known as Gudibande Fort and a must stopover place. The lake is huge, and many birds can be spotted especially during morning hours.
So pack some food, grab bottles of water, wear good hiking shoes, put on some sunscreen, and off we go!
