>Bangkok its a city deeply rooted in tradition that is plowing full steam ahead to being one of the most modern cities in Southeast Asia.
Remnants of the past are so well preserved along with many signs of modernization and infrastructure gang created the sprawling city we can see today...
>When you land in Bangkok, the airport is really well organized and you can make your way out of the airport to the taxi line without any jumble. But yes traffic can sometimes be a bit bad in the city center.. Taxi is pretty much the best way to get to the city, it roughlyh takes about 40 mins from airport to the city center.
Nw here we are at our Airbnb apartment in Bangkok (Chetphun Gate) situated righti at the gate of "Wat pho".
>With all the traffic around, I would recommend to stay in and around the Sukhumvit area. We took a tuk tuk to reach the port from where we decided to take a cruise on the Chao Phraya River which was 400 baht( after a huge bargain ????) the 2 hrs solo ride through some canals is the most pleasant way to explore the city once dubbed "Venice of the East" by Europeans. On both sides of the Chao Phraya River, a touristi can see many magnificent temples and architectural buildings including the First Presbyterian Church, the Royal Thai Navy Dockyard, the Thai Maritime Navigation oCompany, the Old Customs House, You can also see people selling fruits vegetables and other commodities in the floating market. (TIP: do not buy souvenirs from the floating market, you will get it cheap in the market ) you can also feed the fishes there for some good omen
>Next halt was the Grand Palace ... perfectly complement its equally stunning architecture. The main standout is the Emerald Buddha, which is actually made of jade. We couldn't explore much of Wat arun as there was some maintenance going on and was closed for tourist visits ????. But i highly recommend to go to this place..
>Next to the palace is Wat Pho, where a 160-foot long golden Buddha reclines. With a ticket of 100 baht you get an entry ticket to this temple of reclining Buddha .. in the courtyards at Wat Pho Temple are some comical looking Chinese statutes that were once uses as ballasts on ships and 91 chedis (or stupas) decorated in ceramic pottery flowers and colourful tiles.the walkways around Wat Pho will require a guide to decipher, the exquisite murals are so detailed and intricate that even if you don’t understand all the imagery you can still appreciate the artwork( luckily I met a monk who was happy to show us around the temple and explain everything.)
> we wandered around the flower market looking for some local species like jasmine, orchids to import species like tulip, snapdragons . They also have plenty of flower arrangements and decorative stuffs. This place is open 24/7 and is excess is free of cost.
> It's time to visit the largest mall in Bangkok. THE MBK MALL. It is 8 stories building with more than 2000 shops, restaurants and service outlets. It's a one stop for all shopaholics... there is something for everyone here, be it an electronic maniac or fashion diva. Yes you can buy your souvenirs for cheap from this place.
> Chinatown (also known as the Vegas of Thailand ) in Bangkok is at Ko Ratankosin and retains much of its original character. It's here that you can find a lot of variety of Thai and Chinese food from sea food to chicken and duck as well as all possible insects grilled on the stick. But the famous and most costly among everything is the shark fin.
>After a day full of wandering and street shopping when hunger strikes its time to taste some authentic Thai food . So we are here in Khao san road. This road is very unique in itself. One end of the road is full of shops for street shopping and hotels which is calm and quite while the other end of the road separated by a crossing junction is full of bars, pubs live band and shows with people drunk and dancing on the roads. It's an once in a lifetime opportunity to experience something like that.. truly it was one crazy night.
After midnight and a full day of exploring this lively city it's time to be back to the hotel for some rest. Tomorrow is Gona be a new adventurous day...
TIP:: 1.visitors must wear appropriate clothing; this means no exposed shoulders or skin above the knee when entering temple
2. Make sure to remove footwear outside the temple.
3. When out for shopping you have to use your expert bargaining skills.
4. Don't forget to get the traditional Thai massage.
5. A must have is the Thai green and red curry , pad Thai noodles to open up your taste buds.
