Spiti in departing winter is also a good time to go. The temperatures are yet on lower side. However, the biggest disadvantage is you wont be able to go with from Manali side because Rohtang Pass opens in month of July-Aug -- So Hard Luck for You

I would suggest to go with running shoes(waterproof/gum boots) as it will prevent ur toes from getting freezed and stiffed(insensitive). You will be able to enjoy for more time in snow with boots than sneakers😃
upvoteUpvotemessageComment
Waterproof Running shoes are better. They have better grip for the snow and possibly drying them will be easy.

There are lot Many beautiful offbeat places in Ladakh other than usual Leh town, Pangong, Diskit, Hunder etc. It all depends on how many days you are planning your leh trip and your mode of transport. If you have more number of days then consider Turtuk and Hanle apart from the usual places. Visit the blog Devilonwheels for more info
