Yes, you read it right. There's a hospital only for Falcons in Doha, Qatar.
Never have I thought we would see something as unique as a Falcon Hospital until we saw the one at Souq Waqif, Doha.
This hospital, established in 2008, is obviously one of its kind in the world.
It has 3 floors for different departments like, Radiology, Virology, ICU, Dispensary, Pathology (imagine studying bird sh*t under a microscope) etc. We read that it caters to upto 130-150 falcons on a busy day.
The bond between Man and Falcon goes back a hundred millennia. And more specifically, in Arab world, Falcons are regarded as a symbol of pride and dignity. Falcons were predominantly used for hunting, but today they are kept mostly for sport and as a symbol of dignity..
Whatever the intentions might be, it is fascinating to see that people here are still following their ancient tradition and showing their love, care and respect to this proud species.
