Capturing the night sky is one of the most difficult genres of photography. Though Ladakh provides the clearest night skies in the country, it's still very important to move away from city's light pollution.
There are several factors like cloudless skies, interesting objects to put in foreground, etc. The following places are located within a distance of 30 minutes from Leh. In case you're up for night sky photography, you know where to go!
1. Towards Thiksey Monastery
As you go towards Thiksey Monastery from Leh, you will see this view. You can spot the majestic Milky Way just in front of the beautiful monastery, surrounded by the tall trees.
The best time to visit would depends on the month and the season. This particular shot was taken at 8pm, in August.
2. Namgyal Tsemo
Shanti Stupa is another great spot to view the Leh city in all its majesty! From here, you can see the beautiful Namgyal Tsemo on the other side. If you plan in advance, you can get this amazing alignment of the Milky Way, right on top of the monastery. The chocolate brown mountains blends perfectly with the beautiful galaxy.
3. Open fields, close to Thiksey
Just 30 minutes from Leh, ahead of Thiksey Monastery, there is a huge open field. If you want to shoot star trails, it's a perfect spot! The layered mountains in the distance provide a beautiful subject to capture.
